Oxford, MA., December 14, 2007 - IPG Photonics Corporation (NASDAQ: IPGP) today announced that its Russian subsidiary, NTO IRE-POLUS, is supplying its DWDM equipment to North-West Telecom of Svyazinvest, one of the leading telecom companies in Russia. IPG has shipped over $3.8 million over the last 12 months to support several network expansion projects by North-West Telecom.
The DWDM equipment, which includes IPG's fiber amplifiers and transponders, supports North-West Telecom's expansion of its already-extensive network by 5,000 km, connecting 120 locations with multiple WDM channel rates of up to 10Gbps. IPG's equipment also was used for the 2,000 km connection of St. Petersburg, Novgorod, Pskov and Vologda.
IPG's PUSK DWDM system meets North-West Telecom's requirements for cost-effective, scalable transmission equipment, while offering the unique capability to span distances from 200 km to 300 km without expensive mid-span repeaters or amplifiers.
"More than 17,000 km and 300 cities currently are connected by IPG's DWDM equipment in Russia and the CIS countries," said Igor Samartsev, Managing Director of NTO IRE-POLUS. "These purchases with North-West Telecom and our increasing presence in this market demonstrate our ability to supply unique, high-performance quality products to enable large-scale network expansion."
North-West Telecom, organized by Svyazinvest in 2001, serves approximately five million subscribers with a wide range of telecommunication services in the territory of the North-Western federal district, with a mostly urban population of 13.7 million over 1.8 million sq. km.
